Zombeast "That Corpse Won't Die"
From self-titled album released in 2006 on Horror High records
The following lyrics are those of the horror-punk band Zombeast who are from Arizona. This song describes major zombie themes. It describes a voodoo goddess, presumably black, bringing a corpse back to life who has been hanged by members of the Ku Klux Klan. The voodoo goddess gets revenge for the man by turning him into a zombie and letting him loose to feed upon his murderers. A sweet tale of justice, these lyrics describe the theme of racism that goes back to the beginning of zombie texts. All early zombie texts included rascist implications. This is the first modern song i have heard discussing the voodoo nature of zombie-ism. Voodooism is the major influence of our general zombie texts. Nowadays texts are so absorbed in the zombie apocalypse brought on by viruses that voodooism is hardly mentioned. Its good to see a modern band remember zombie roots.
He was murdered in the dark at night
illuminated by the crosses light
swayin feet, noose fastened tight
murdered by those men in white
Whoah oh
thrown in the swamp, that corpse won't die
whoah oh
the voodoo goddess gon' bring him life
whoah oh
she calls her zombie to feast tonight
she brought him back to take their souls
revenge is swift and oh so cold
white turns to red and the blood it flows
she puts their childrens heads upon her walls
whoah oh
thrown in the swamp that corpse won't die
whoah oh
the voodoo goddess gon' bring him life
whoah oh
they're gonna get revenge tonight
