Night Of The Living BreadThis is a featured page

Night Of The Living Bread (1990) is an 8 minute 25 second Kevin O'Brien parody of George A. Romero's 1968 Film Night Of The Living Dead, which was remade in 1990. This parody is included in "Special Collector's Edition Digitally Remastered 2 Tape Set" from Anchor Bay Entertainment and the "Millennium Edition" of Night of the Living Dead by Elite Entertainment.

In Night Of The Living Bread, a couple is assaulted at a grave yard much in-line with the 1968 parent film. However, the nature of the assault is not - Bread has come to life and now hungry for the living! Karma?

Parodies are very revealing - essentially, they are only successful if the genre itself is popular enough to be parodied. Established norms must be present in order for them to be parodied, and parodies can successfully measure the popularity of a given genre. For example; In the opening scene - as the woman leaves the car to run for the house - she continually trips on what seems to be nothing, playing with the notion that when people are running from danger they always seem to slip in horror films. The relative success of parodies such as these are benchmarks in the success of the zombie horror genre. This parody directly addresses the impact zombies had on the horror film as a whole, starting with the title and working on down to using toasters to ward off bread as Vincent Price once used Garlic and Mirrors in "The Last Man On Earth".
