In preparation for another course, I'm doing some major site revision. I've been deleting empty or near-empty pages, restructuring the wiki's organization, and otherwise revising to make it a more useful research resource. More revisions and clearer guidelines will follow.

I am just gonna add that in the trailer for the New Indiana Jones film, Indiana Jones the the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, It hints that the Kingdom of the Crystal skull is guarded by the "walking dead." Now obviously we will have to wait and see for sure May 22nd but for me this pretty much was a red zombie flag of sorts.

I was just wondering where all the Wiki Posts are? Most of the folders are empty and I'm a little too lazy to continue my search of fellow classmates' wiki post. Care to list what you have posted so far? I just want to look at what others have on here and see if my wiki post is on the right track. It doesn't really look like a "traditional" wiki post, but I wanted to keep it mostly content based. Help!

Here's a post I hope you find interesting......Val Lewton, a director of horror films of the 40's such as "I Walked With a Zombie" "The Cat People" and "The Body Snatchers" is becoming popular again on a giant scale. Their is a new documentary on Lewton and his films released on DVD and playing on TCM. Where early "Zombie" films tended to be a little racist and empty headed, Lewton's "I Walked With a Zombie" is filled with atmosphere, suspense and Lewton's trademark...Psychological terror. So if your a thinking man's zombie fan, try looking into the films of Val Lewton, you won't be sorry....

Because there has been some interest in coordinating a viewing of Romero's new film, I thought that I'd start a thread for those who want to work something out. As I mentioned in class, I'm considering trying to catch the first show Friday at Arizona Mills. It occurred to me this afternoon that because we don't have class on Monday, but often do, most people might have that time open (don't tell work you have the day off). It might, then, make better sense to try for Monday morning's first show (usually around 11:00am, so almost class time anyway). Avoids the Friday fan lines, too. Feel free to share your thoughts. I don't expect anyone to go out of their way to coordinate, so don't feel pressured.

If anyone has constructive comments for my Humor page let me know. I'm interested not so much about critiques on what has been written, but what hasn't and what film; comic, novel, etc. references should be added. I completely respect the class as a whole and want to get yawls feedback into this topic. I have a long list of things to add, but really want the article to be a cohesive classroom effort (for those that want to contribute… I realize some are satisfied to do just the bare minimum for a grade…and that’s totally understandable). BUT, if you have the inclination, drop a message to me or simply make an addition to the text itself. I would really appreciate it and want to see what everyone else has to say about this topic. I personally think humor is SO important and very much central to the genre. That being said, I can't wait to read these messages and additions!!! Most of the classmates have totally proven that their senses of humor are certainly varied, yet completely sharp and relevant to this subject. I look forward to anyone and everyone's opinions. Thanks for your time and effort (If you choose to spend it and make one that is...ha-ha) –Ty…Bub.

"" (for those that want to contribute… I realize some are satisfied to do just the bare minimum for a grade…and that’s totally understandable). " i work 32 hours a week. i've never had any internet classes. i realize that many haven't made much on our wiki for this class but i think this comment is rude. " Maybe it's just me but I didn't get how this comment was rude. There really are people out there who do the bare minimum to get the grade. What Bub forgot to mention is that there are also people out there who work a lot and can only afford to do so much to pass. It wasn't meant as rude at all.

Keep in mind the purpose of the wiki: to provide an overall sense of the genre and critical commentary on individual texts and themes. I don't think that you need a detailed explanation of the rules here, unless there is something particular about the rules that reflects someting critical that you want to say. So, for example, if you want to argue that the game mechanism that allows rules to change mid-game mirrors how a zomie movie like _28 Days Later_ changes mid-film (from zombies as the antagonists to the military as antagonists), then you'd want to explain that rule a bit. For the most part, though, you want to focus on the "Context" section, which I just barely started. Talk about how the game connects to the notions of the genre. Where does the humor come from? Odd associations like a zombie baseball team? Gruesome humor like how players "die" (can players die)? Also, add some links to the game's official website and other pages on this wiki (like humor).

Check out Adrian Lyne's film Jacob's Ladder and Wes Craven's The Serpent and the Rainbow. Both of these films elaborate on your topic. The Serpent and the Rainbow is especially useful, as it is featured in our text and makes use of the "Return to Caribbean" theme that I'm sure we will study as the class goes on. Also, John Maybury’s The Jacket delves into the subject, plus it has a great performance by Daniel Craig. As for music, the Oysterhead (Trey Anastasio…Phish, Les Claypool…Primus, Stuart Copeland…Police) song Army's on Ecstasy is directly about your topic as well. I moved Zombie Culture over here because we're doing Cultural Studies (note capital letters), where "everything is a text." So you can study a Zombie Walk in Seattle using much the same critical apparatus as you might apply to a film or a graphic novel. Any event or ceremony is a kind of performance.

Alright, Ty. I pulled stuff out of your starter entry and began putting them in a different shape. I'm going to use this entry as the example text for the class, so thanks for volunteering for that. Some notes: 1. Don't sign your entries. You're credited in the page's history. 2. Avoid being overly general. You're making huge generalizations about horror here without demonstrating your logic or offering specific examples as support 3. More specifics. Examples, details, more details, more examples. 4. Headings. Breaking up an entry not only helps your reader see the relationships amongst the information, it can help you organize your thoughts. For categories, be thinking about how a particular idea works within the texts, and what it reflects to or from outside the texts.
There's still plenty to be done here (thus the editorial notes in red), so have at it.

Man, CB, you really helped out!!! Great additions!!!!! This is what I wanted to add, granted, my ideas are totally grander in scope. I have considered writing a text book on the subject of humor in horror and this is the direction I intend on taking. Again, thank you and please realize that my efforts so far are nominal; I truly have made plans to contribute in context to this subject in exhaustive proportions...Hahahaha...true.

Yeah, why is this movie here? There is NO connection whatsoever to zombies. This needs to be removed. The only reason I can think of (as to why this film is featured on this site) is that it was discussed in class (even at that it was just in passing)...and by no stretch of the imagination does that give it any plausible argument to remain a "zombie text". Sorry, but it really bothers me that this motion picture is featured on this site, but I would LOVE to read a coherent argument for it remaining here.

Should these films be divided into nationality? I say absolutely, yes. There's a bunch of Italian and Japanese, movies as well as films from New Zealand and the UK that I want to write about and think it's important to make the distiction between American and foreign films.

How many of you noticed that (even in White Zombie) that humor has always been a staple for the genre? I mean come on, the movie ends with a running joke "does anyone have a match?” This is so telling!!! Maybe it's prevalent in horror in general, that comic relief is essential to the plotline, because when dealing with tension there has to be release. Without it there wouldn't be much of genre...just ugliness...and if that was the case throughout the medium over the years it would have surely died long ago. I think it takes the right amount of tension and release in narratives (much like in sophisticated music) to be successful. What's the contention as a class (and by class I mean the handful of students that frequent this forum)?

Sounds like you need to work on the Humor page. Perhaps discuss a little why you think that humor is such a strongly recurring thread in zombie texts. I suspect that you'd find much more zombie humor than werewolf humor (aside from the _Teen Wolf_ films and Abbott and Costello).

Nightmare" to haunt big screen again Tuesday January 29 8:50 PM ET
Freddy's back. Again.
New Line is in talks with horror production company Platinum Dunes to re-launch the "Nightmare on Elm Street" movie series, the franchise that helped establish the studio.
The first "Nightmare" movie was made by Wes Craven and released in 1984. The runaway success of the film spawned a slew of sequels and created one of the most popular villains in screen history, Freddy Krueger, played by Robert Englund. The film centered on Krueger, a serial child killer murdered by angry parents, who returns with a burned face and a razor glove to terrorize teens in their dreams.
A screenwriter will be hired once the Writers Guild of America strike ends. The producers -- Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form -- are hoping to focus part of the new movie on Krueger's backstory.
Platinum Dunes is prepping another re-launch, "Friday the 13th," which will be directed by Marcus Nispel for New Line, for whom it remade "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and its sequel.
The company is remaking "Near Dark" for Rogue and "The Birds" for Universal. It is also prepping a non-remake project, an untitled David Goyer thriller.
